Want to cancel some or all of your carbon footprint but not sure how? Or perhaps you’re looking to support a real project making a real difference and resulting in a multi-generational legacy. If so, then you’re warmly invited to sponsor us to plant trees on your behalf that will sequester carbon out of the atmosphere, thereby offsetting your carbon footprint.
How Does It Work?
Trees convert sunlight into energy via a process called photosynthesis. In everyday terms, they ‘breath in’ carbon dioxide in gas form, ‘breath out’ the oxygen, and store the carbon in solid form – in the soil, root, trunk, branches and leaves. As the trees we plant grow they sequester (i.e. isolate or take away) the carbon from the atmosphere. Here’s a short video that explains more:
How Many Trees Need To Be Planted?
To cancel one year of your carbon, estimated to be 18 tonnes per adult, you’d need to buy and plant 50 native trees and then nurture them for ten years. Most people don’t have enough land, time and / or skill to do this in their backyard, which is how we can help. With your support, we’ll purchase, plant and nurture trees on your behalf on our native revegetation project at Carriage Range in North East Victoria.
How Much Will It Cost?
The cost is surprisingly low, just $1.65 per tree per annum for ten years.
To calculate the total cost first input the number of adults and children, then the percentage of the carbon you’d like to offset. The calculator will then estimate the tonnes of carbon that needs to be offset, the cost (which you can pay as a lump sum or monthly over 12 months), and the number of trees that your contribution supports.
While cancelling all your carbon is the gold medal standard, if your budget doesn’t allow this, then you can still play your part by offsetting less than 100%. Every contribution makes an important difference.
How Is My Carbon Offset?
The government issues a carbon credit for each tonne of carbon sequestered. We have set aside a shade under 50,000 of the carbon credits to be retired rather than sold, thereby offsetting your carbon. The finer details of how it all works are outlined in our Terms & Conditions.
How Do I Know This Is Legitimate?
More than $3 million dollars of private capital has already been invested in setting up and establishing the project. Google maps provides evidence, with satellite photos already capturing our planting rows.
